Rio out of Andorra game

Filed Under (Greece) by on 05-09-2008

United defender Rio Ferdinand has been ruled out of England’s World Cup qualifier with Andorra on Saturday evening with a back problem.
Central defender Rio Ferdinand has been ruled out by England boss Fabio Capello at the pre-match news conference ahead of the game at the Olympic Stadium in Barcelona.
It is expected that the former Leeds and West Ham defender will be fit for the Three Lions’ crunch game against Croatia next week, meaning that there is no reason to risk the Champions League winner against the part-time Andorra team.
“He is the only one in the squad who is not 100 percent fit,” Capello revealed to the press.
“But it is not a serious injury and I think he will be fit to face Croatia next week.”

Ferdinand’s back ailment has prevented him from taking part in any training this week.
As a result of the player’s absence Joleon Lescott, Wes Brown and Matthew [...]

Delays delays delays…

Filed Under (Greece) by on 05-09-2008

If everything would have gone as planned, I would be half way to Sweden by now. But noooo, my flight is delayed 1 hour and 40 freakin minutes. So instead of departing at 21.00 we now have to wait til 23.40.. Lets just hope that’s the only delay it is - so they don’t add a few hours on it when the clock hits 23.40.
Feels strange that I’ve already been here a month. It feels shorter, but at the same time much longer. Got to know so many people (whom I can’t get in touch with anymore, because I was stupid to loose my phone on tuesday…), and got to know London a bit too. Lovely country, lovely city, lovely people. What else can I say? Can’t wait to get back.
But now I don’t want to waste my precious time (haha) on the computer - I’m gonna go find somewhere [...]

Im Back!

Filed Under (Greece) by on 05-09-2008

Hey! I’m finally back!!!! Camping was so much fun with my class! The thing that stinks was yesterday my group walked 7 miles!!! And at the beginning I twisted my ankle and it really hurt the whole day! But besides that I had a blast! Oh and what was cool was my Councilor was from England! He was so cool and nice! Oh and our group was named the ‘Bicons,’ and we had our own theme song! It was…
“Everywere we go, people wanna know, who we are, so we tell them, were the Bicons, the Mighty Mighty Bicons!!!”  GO BICONS!
It was awesome! Also after I got back, I went to eat with my mom and 17 of my friends who went to the Camp were there! So we sat next to each other! Thank you Bodge101 for posting!

M5 Motorway Meltdown

Filed Under (Greece) by on 05-09-2008

I’m too knackered to write anything much, other than to say that I hate the bloody M5 motorway. I’ve been stuck on the M5 for the WHOLE day. In traffic. In the pissing rain. With the baby screaming in the back seat.
I’ve been having a serious case of road rage. What should have taken me an hour, has taken me almost 6 hours. And after all that, I didn’t even make it to my final destination. I had to pull over in Swindon and track down a hotel before I had a complete meltdown. It was a close call. Baby, of course, was already having a full motorway meltdown at that point.
Why do people drive like complete twats in the rain? Everyone in the UK drives like a demon on speed at the best of times, which is OK in the sunshine, but in the rain it’s tantamount to [...]

‘when you get bored of london, you get bored of life’

Filed Under (Greece) by on 05-09-2008

That’s a famous quote of a poet named Samuel Johnson. It has been raining all day today! Yet despite the weather(whilst incidently it’s supposed to be summer right now..) there is still so much you can do! I have had a fairly low key day today though, first up woke up and went to the tour offices to book my tour for tomorrow! I’m excited, going on an all day trip to Stonehenge, Windsor castle and the town of bath.
During this time the rain started getting real bad so I found refuge in a natural history museum…about dinosaurs and all…cool but seen it all before. Still raining so went to a science one which was quite cool.
Walked around town and then went on another walking tour organized by the group that I spoke about yesterday- new Europe! Whilst yesterdays ones were more about london, and the monarch aspect, todays one [...]

How many more chances for Michael Vaughan?

Filed Under (Greece) by on 05-09-2008

The English cricket team is unbeaten in 1 Test and 4 ODIs since Michael Vaughan resigned as captain and took some time out to play for Yorkshire. Whilst his former teammates have been taking wickets and scoring runs, Vaughan has averaged about 10.
These facts might lead you to the conclusion that Vaughan wouldn’t be in the touring squad for India if it were to be picked today. The selectors might agree, which could explain why they’ve delayed the squad announcement so that “a few people out there playing for form” have a chance to justify their possible selection.
It seems that the selectors don’t want to leave Vaughan out, even though the current team has stupendously high morale and is on good form, whilst the only form Vaughan is likely to have found recently is a P45. This smacks of jobs for the boys.
Rant over, for now.

Day 3: Travelling on Samos

Day 3: Itinery, photos & points of Interest

We took a breakfast in Semifreddo Pasticceria at Karlovassi harbor.
The first destination after breakfast was the idillic village Idhroussa, where we would have the opportunitiy to visit the Oldest Byzantine Church of Samos. Village Idhroussa itself actually worth´s a visit, auite authentic place and not touristy at all compared to Monalates and Vourliotes. It is a great relaxation to kill sometime under the old trees shading the central Kafenion.
After some relaxation, we started the walk to the old byzantian church Kimisis Theotokou (The Rough Guide to Greek Islands, P. 405). It is a bit difficult to orientate yourself and even the villagers themselves seem not to know bout the church. Ask for the way to ” Petaloudha”. This is apperantly the name of the source next to the church and they know it. Walk is about 2.4 km and takes about 40 Minutes. Take enough [...]

I’m falling in love…

Filed Under (Greece) by on 05-09-2008

Photo to be inserted at a future date.
******
I think I’m falling in love… with London. The weather today was absolutely beautiful, with the slight breeze and the cool summer sun. I couldn’t wait to get off work and walk around. Just anywhere, out in the beautiful day. Sharp @ 6pm, I got off work, took a quick shower and headed off towards Notting Hill. I let my feet and my heart guide my walking.
It took me down a street with designer boutiques, mostly by celebrities (ie. Sienna Miller). It was shortly followed by a row of shops selling bargain and retro clothes for less than GBP5. Not long after, I found myself in a bookstore at Notting Hill Gate. I miss bookstores. The smell of new books with its untouched pages gives me a sense of euphoria, like a good cuppa. Afterwards, I walked down a street with lots of [...]

Off to See the Wizard!

Filed Under (Greece) by on 05-09-2008

It’s a fact, she must be a wizard to do all that she does.  The Yarn Harlot knits (a lot…and quickly!), speaks, travels, writes, and raises a family (with 3 teenage girls…holy moly!).  She has a following of which I am proud to be one, and I am going to hear her speak tomorrow at I Knit in London.  Not only will she be there, but there will be a variety of other speakers, workshops, and knitting and fiber related stalls for shopping.
It really is like going to see the Wizard and Oz!
I spent a great deal of today trying to figure out what the heck to bring with me to knit.  After all, I’ll be spending 6+ hours on the train, and knitting during the Stephanie Pearl-McPhee’s session (that’s the Harlot’s real name) and meals.  There’s no room for error when packing, that’s for sure.  Forget a needle?  I [...]
